On This Day in History - January 3, 2014

The Reagan Doctrine - We Win and They Lose... Its that Simple.
On this day in America in 1938, the March of Dimes Foundation was founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, as a means by which to combat Polio, which at the time was the main killer of babies; today it has 51 chapters across the U.S. and Puerto Rico and provides mothers and pregnant woman with the education needed to improve the health of babies and education on motherhood, especially to those families affected by prematurity, birth defects, or other infant health problems. Another feel good progressive program, by another evil progressive President; since this is what families and communities have been doing on their own for centuries without having to spend a dime of taxpayers money. Also in this day in American history in 2004, NASA's mars rover Spirit touched down for the first time on the red planet. Lastly, on this day in 1990, Panamanian Dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega surrendered to the overwhelming military force that the United States displayed under the Reagan Doctrine; with the opera loving dictator giving himself up after initially hiding in the Vatican embassy after U.S. troops bombarded the embassy with loud rock music.

On this day in Canada in 1863, the first ever covered skating rink was opened in Halifax, Nova Scotia; until then skating and hockey was all done outdoors. Also on this day in Canada in 1992, the Miss-Canada Pageant was scrapped after 45 years due to changing political and cultural tastes, with Nicole Dunsdon crowned in Oct. 1991 the last Miss Canada.

"A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots."
