The National Debt, the Affordable Care Act, and a Republican - Just When You Thought You Knew?

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) has long been the subject of much heated debate amongst Republicans and Libertarians alike, due the Speaker's seeming inability to challenge President Obama on anything. While it should be noted that this is an over-simplification, it is nonetheless not that far from the truth. However, just when you thought you knew who Speaker John Boehner was, a man who was going to go down as one of the worst House Speakers in U.S. History when the Republicans controlled the House; well as far as Republicans are concerned. He has done something that even to the most observant of political groupies, is so unexpected, that it makes you wonder if he had a stroke, an epiphany, or, even if you are an atheist, an encounter with God of some kind.

Though let's hope for the sake of both, my atheist friends' moods, and both Boehner's soul (for my religious friends) and physical health, that it was the second. That the Speaker finally came to the sudden realization that President Obama has done nothing to solve the domestic national crises that has gripped the U.S. since the financial collapse of 2008. A crisis that is deeply centered on the two signature issues Obama campaigned on in 2008 to win the Presidency; the debt and health-care. The latter of which Obama's Affordable Care Act was supposed to fix, but much to the shock of everyone, except those who know political history and theory, or who currently live under a socialist health-care system (like myself), it is set to become, when fully implemented on October 1, 2013, the Un-Affordable Care Act.

Since not only has it been well documented and publicized, by business owners themselves, even in such places as the progressive utopia of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,  that the uncertainty of the exact cost and the extra cost of Obama-Care on businesses offering full-time jobs with benefits, has led a lot of business owners to simply invest their money in the bank instead of in the American people. Leading to many businesses refusing to hire or waiting to hire; and the number of full-time jobs in the economy being created to drop dramatically, while the creation of part-time and seasonal jobs continue to rise rapidly.

Yet, it is not just the fact that the Affordable Care Act is causing these obvious and negative economic realities, among others, that makes it so un-affordable. It is also because President Obama, despite his promises of a balanced budget, has had over a trillion dollar deficit every year he has been in office since 2008. With 2013 being the exception, well so far, given that another Middle-East war is still lurking on the horizon, with Obama's re-election we now have to pay for everyone's contraception at least that's what the kids who voted for him say, and the Affordable Care Act has yet to take full effect. A deficit problem that has seen President Obama whine that the rich aren't paying their fair share, with the rich being defined as those making over $200,000 a year. In other words small business owners who create roughly half of the nations' new jobs every month; and despite the fact that just the top 10% of earners alone, pay over 70% of the taxes already.

Yet, what makes President Obama's whining even worse is that he has not only refused to take leadership over the situation, he has also refused to take any responsibility for the fact that it has been his signature piece of legislation, the Affordable Care Act or Obama-Care as the President so affectionately likes it to be referred to as. Not to mention the other unsustainable Democrat (Obama's own progressive party) entitlements such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid; well except for Medicare part D, the only entitlement to consistently come in under budget every year, which was created by President George W. Bush in 2006; that has caused the debt crisis. Something that Speaker John Boehner and the Republican establishment elites have been happy to let go and let slide for all of Obama's Presidency it seems. With the Speaker even taking part in what has infamously been dubbed the Golf Summit back in June of 2011; when President Obama was fighting a constitutionally illegal war in Libya, advocating for higher taxes, and seeking to raise the debt ceiling and push America further into debt.

This is why by Speaker of the House John Boehner giving all indications so far that he will finally stand up for the American people, the American Constitution, and his fellow Conservative and Libertarian colleagues in his own party, against President Obama when it comes to once more raising the debt ceiling. It demonstrates that not only might there be some hope left for the Republican Party itself, but also that the Affordable Care Act might actual be de-funded and thus become an unimplementable policy. Since Speaker Boehner today presented the Republican game plan for the vote on raising the debt ceiling that is coming up shortly; a plan that includes the de-funding of Obama-Care in return for Republican support to raise the debt ceiling.

However, while those situated on the right are greatly encouraged by this recent development, since they have always hoped both that the Republican party would return to its principled heritage and that Obamaa-Care would be discarded one way or another; caution must be exercised. Since the negotiations are far from complete, and Speaker Boehner still has plenty of time to return to form and disappoint. Moreover, this may simply be a political calculation on the part of the Republican establishment for 2016, and even more so for the upcoming House and Senate elections in 2014; rather than a true change of heart and return to their historical principles by the Republican party establishment.

Yet, for now those on the right and the American people (who in the latest polls still oppose Obama-Care overwhelmingly) have reason to hope. Moreover, even if this does turn out to be a mere political calculation, it still works heavily in the American people's favor and towards the right's vision of turning America back into a Constitutional Republic. Something that might just begin to be achieved through the most unlikely of sources, Speaker of the House John Boehner.
